How long should I wait to hear back?

I had an interview on April 27th.  The final interviewer was actually someone subbing in at the last minute from another department (the other person couldn't come into work that day).  He told me that I should hear back within a reasonable amount of time (which usually means within a week).  Obviously he didn't know when their deadline is since he works in a different department.  I feel like my interviews with each person went pretty well.  I was extremely confident when I left.

I emailed them all and thanked them for the interview.  I never heard anything back from them.

Through their website you can see what stage the application/hiring process is under.  On May 1st they updated it from "accepting applications" to "under consideration".  After this it will say if an offer is pending acceptance or if the job has been accepted.

So how long should I wait before I contact their internal recruiter to ask about when a decision should be made?  I'm getting really anxious.  This is my dream job and I really want it!  I don't know if sending an email would come across as being pushy or if it would help show that I am interested.

Re: How long should I wait to hear back?

  • I would have contacted the recruiter already, since the person you spoke to wasn't familiar with things. At this point I'd contact the recruiter tomorrow and ask what timing is looking like.

  • As a hiring manager, I have commonly required weeks to make a decision. I would not get yourself in a hurry.
  • I checked my mail and ended up having a letter from them saying they chose someone else.  Boo.
