expiration date for white chocolate chips
I am wanting to try a recipe for Oatmeal Cranberry white chocolate chunk cookies (I got it with an Ocean Spray Craisins sample). It calls for 2/3 cup white chocolate chips or chunks. I have a lot of semi sweet chocolate chips on hand that are "fresh", but I have one bag of white chocolate chips, but has been hanging around for at least 3 years. I can't find a best by used date and it is still sealed, but I am not sure if they would still be good. I am thinking no, but I don't have any other uses for white chocolate other than that recipe. So, could I swap the semi sweet for white, use the white chocolate chips I have or just buy a new bag of white chocolate chips?
Re: expiration date for white chocolate chips
It is probably still good. Open it. See mold? No? Taste one. Taste fine? Use.
I don't know if you would ever see mold on white chocolate, but it could go rancid. Since they were still sealed, you are maybe ok, but I guess the only way to tell is to eat some and see if they taste off.
