painted casement windows?

We are considering purchasing a house with casement windows and trim stained a dark brown. It looks really dated so I'd probably want to paint everything. I've never had casement windows though. Are they hard to paint? Would it look weird to paint them white? The house is a tri-level from the mid 70's. I'm used to older homes with 6 panel doors, double hung windows, and more elaborate trim, so I'm having a hard time envisioning how this home will look with painted white trim. thoughts appreciated!

Re: painted casement windows?

  • I think it would be easier than painting double hung windows, because with them where the windows slide against each other the paint rubs off and you can see a sliver of natural wood, and you need to keep moving the windows to make sure they don't stick closed. Whereas with casement windows you don't have that problem. Getting paint on the glass is not as big an issue as you'd think, because it comes off with a razor blade very easily.

  • You raise some good points, thank you!
