New Food Frustrations

I was just about tearing my hair out at the pet supply store, guys. Cassie's allergic to chicken, beef, pork, and grains. I want to feed all three dogs the same food, all are adult, but only one is a large breed, one medium, one smallish. I want to avoid Diamond foods. From the selection they had, these were my top choices:

Evo - has eggs, and is pricey

California Natural herring formula - it has grains, but limited ones

Nature's Variety Instinct limited ingredient lamb - just super pricey, and while Jenny can eat some lamb foods, others are too rich

Nutro grain free - contains chicken fat, though the Nutro rep insisted to me that wouldn't matter (I didn't really believe her)

I ended up going home with a smallish bag of the California Natural just to see, but I don't have a great feeling about it. Damn you, Diamond!

Do they carry Acana or Orijen?  Both are grain free.

I *think* Acana has a bison one. They also have a grasslands one, which is lamb and duck (I think?).

ETA:  Here is the website for the manufacturer.  http://www.championpetfoods.com/ I saw that they have a duck and pear variety now.

  • Those look good, especially the fish formulas -- looks like my usual place carries them, just not at the location I went to today. Thanks!

  • ... just saw Orijen is $80 for a 29lb bag. Eeeeep.

  • Acana is part of the same company, and less expensive.  While we feed raw, I still feed fosters kibble and they all get Acana Pacifica.  I think they also have a frequent buyer program.

California Natural also has grain free options.  I've fed their grain free lamb to fosters before and it's worked well for them as well.

It is pricey, but like pp said, Acana is cheaper and also excellent.  If we ever stop feeding raw, this is what we'd feed.  We fed it before and our cats did well on it.

Wellness Core makes an Ocean variety that is grain-free and fish-based.  I don't belief it has any chicken, beef, or pork.  I order from PFD and get a 26-lb. bag for about $55-$60 (usually with free shipping or a discount that is the same amount as the shipping thanks to their coupons).

ETA - Just saw you want to avoid Diamond, and I think Wellness is a Diamond brand.
