drop off on side of driveway

The previous owners of our house did not take care of the yard whatsoever. We started with a complete jungle of a yard, and are slowly making it look nice. On the side of our driveway, there is a large drop off/bank which is mostly due to the fact that nothing other than crazy weeds were growing there. Now that we have started to really clear that, the drop off is even worse. Any suggestions of what we can do? Unfortunately a retaining wall is really not in our budget right now.

Here are a couple of pictures, I'm not sure now much you can tell from them, but to give you an idea:

Re: drop off on side of driveway

  • Are you looking for something to hold in the soil, or do you want to give the area some height to minimize the look of the slope?

  • Definitely something to hold in the soil, but maybe a mix of things? I am also concerned about safety, because in a couple of spots it's almost an immediate drop-off from the driveway. We don't have kids yet, but some of our friends do, and this is not our forever house so I worry about resale as well.
