Polar HRM watch users - when to replace it?

I have an old Polar f4, it's probably about 4 years old. The battery in the watch finally died so I had it replaced yesterday. But I don't think it's picking up my correct HR anymore. Or, it's taking a long time to read my correct HR. I know this bc I went power walking and on steep hills where I'd typically be at about 160ish BPM, it was barely going past 140 or so.

The chest strap batteries can't be replaced.

What's been your experience with your Polar HRM watches. After 4 years, is it time to just pony up and buy another one?

Re: Polar HRM watch users - when to replace it?

  • When I had the battery on my watch replaced they told me that the chest strap would likely be wearing out soon but that I could purchase just the chest strap without replacing the watch too.

  • $33 for a new transmitter or I can just get a whole new Polar (ft4) for $65.  Hmmmm.

  • Up to you then.  I'm cheap and would save the $32 if the watch part still works.

But yeah, the chest strap battery going out after 4ish years sounds about right to me.

  • That's true. $32 is $32.
