Another One Bites the Dust...

ndolehanndolehan member

Guess who has a recalled bag of TOTW? Rosco Cat. Great.

I at least have some wet food (crapy but at least he won't go hungry). For tonight.

Looks like I'll be trying to find another grain-free food for him! Unfortunately, if I start him on something new I don't want to switch back to TOTW. Just too much switching IMO. Which is too bad, I love TOTW.

What are your thoughts? Any food suggestions?

Welp - off to the FAQ page to research more foods!

  • Are they recalling cat food now, too? I thought they were only recalling dog food.

Yes. Some batches of cat food are also included.

Info from their Facebook page can help you figure out if you have a recalled bag: http://www.facebook.com/tasteofthewildpetfood

I already returned my recalled bag. I just didn't realize that cat food was involved, too (I don't have a cat). That sucks.

I think Lilie's response give a very good argument for NOT switching.

  • I agree that I would not switch completely, just temporarily.  They've handled the recall much better than most companies did a few years back and have been proactive, which should earn people's trust if anything.  I'd recommend Instinct.  We feed Natural Balance b.c. of allergy issues and they haven't recalled any cat food.

Honestly, I respectfully disagree. While her response was informative, I do not think her response is relevant to my post. I am also a "fan" of TOTW on facebook and have read what she has described, and I am not one of those people. I do have a bag that is recalled. I understand what a voluntary recall means, why they did the recall, etc. etc.

I don't WANT to switch food, I love TOTW (see OP) and this it is still very high quality. I have absolutely nothing against TOTW and still enjoy their brand. I'm not going to keep a bag a food that could possibly be contaminated. I know it's a voluntary recall, I don't want to take any chances. My bag IS a part of the recall.

However - I don't want to switch to another brand and then switch back. (see OP).  I personally  think it's too much switching for my little (big) guy's tummy.

Are you rotating proteins?  It's good to change up cat food sometimes to prevent allergies.  We went on allergy food a year ago for one cat, the other was recently prescribed a treat with wheat which he never had issues with, and it made him violently ill.

Yes! I bounce between the salmon/venison and the trout/salmon variety of cat food. For wet I'll typically buy Wellness Core chicken/turkey and the whitefish/herring. Both are grain-free. I prefer the grain-free for him, even though he doesn't have any allergies. Just a preference.

I just went to the pet store and luckily they had ONE bag of TOTW that wasn't part of the recall. And it was $1 off! Glad I don't have to switch!

I'm still going to send in my recalled bag for a refund.

  • We were told to try Before Grain.  The pet store we use said it is a good food.
