What kind of meat do you eat for clean eating?

I've been trying to do mostly clean eating for health reasons and to lose these pesky last 12 pounds (mostly around my belly and hips).  What kind of meat do you ladies eat who do clean eating?

I've been in the bad habit of reaching for slices of deli meat for a quick protein snack or breakfast and I know they are high in sodium and certainly processed.  What would be a better option?

    If you don't have a butcher near, however, do you have a co-op?

    And if not, usually the more humanely treated the animals, the less processed and chemical filled the animals are. Here are the two sites I use to find local restaurants and grocery stores that sell humanely treated (heads up: reading "free range" on stuff is total crap. Don't bother thinking that means your animals were well treated)

  • Also, if you don't keep the deli meat in your household, you won't grab the deli meat to eat ;) 
  • We eat a lot of chicken breast, locally sourced beef, and Canadian bacon from Costco.

    You could cook up some plain meat like chicken or turkey breast, beef top round roast or pork loin and slice thinly. I like to salt it to taste when serving except the poultry seems juicier when brined beforehand and that adds plenty of saltiness. 
  • Applegate farms makes some deli meat that is supposed to be really good, and it doesn't have the added junk most brands put in.
  • My dad is a butcher so I agree with PP, find a good butcher and ask him or her for help!  We were not big lunch meat eaters growing up but what we did have was always the best stuff my dad sold.  I was shocked by prices once I was out on my own & buying my own food!  My dad makes his own roast beef and OMG, it is so good!  Even the really premium deli roast beef isn't quite as good and tastes so processed.  My dad doesn't sell organic meat b/c his customers won't pay organic prices.  However, he says that some meat is pretty much organic, grain fed, etc but the farmers don't want to pay for the organic designation.  Ask a butcher what he/she takes home for the family and buy that.  Also, no matter what grocery stores might say, the guy behind the meat counter at Kroger, Meijer, etc, is almost certainly not a butcher.  Whenever I ask questions I usually get a blank stare.  I see you're in Ohio...in southwestern Ohio Jungle Jims, Dorothy Lane Market, Whole Foods, or Earth Fare should all have good meat counters with staff who know their stuff, plus Findlay Market or the North Market in Columbus.  You didn't mention fish but a fish monger or company that sells seafood to higher end restaurants should have good quality fish & seafood.  The one near me closed, boo.  Not cheap but the salmon was quality!
