"Does it come out of the house often?"
That was the question I got this morning when T showed up to daycare with his doll this morning.
I didn't realize that boys could only play dolls in the confines of their own home?
He was quite upset that the doll and I had to leave (we talk about how his blanket and dolls have to come to work with mommy, and how they can't stay with T, and he usually does fine). I didn't realize that boys playing with dolls was such an anomalie.

I wasn't very clear on that part. It had to leave for the reason that you were talking about it.
But she was obviously shocked that he had a doll in the first place. She asked "What does he have in his hands?" and I told her that he wanted his doll to help drop him off. "Oh. Does it come out of the house often?"
Did you ask her "Do you?" because clearly she's a shut in.
I see little boys with dolls all the time. My son got one for Christmas - it's a snuggly little Manhattan Toys pea pod thingy. He carries with him sometimes, and sometimes my college mascot that a friend gave us.
that would make me use my lawyer voice to give her the ice freeze message about how if you, person with my kid all day, forces gender norms on my kid when s/he's already going to get them everywhere else, including the color-coding on the goddamned toy aisles at target, i will be taking my child and my business elsewhere.
