I failed at breaking her pacifier habit this weekend
We did it Friday night. She cried for 1 hour when I put her down and then from 1:00am to 2:30am straight.
I didn't give in.
Rinse and repeat Saturday night. I broke down in tears at 3:00am and gave her the paci.
My temporary plan is to only let her have it when she is in her crib and wait until I can reason with her more before I take it away. She is not yet at the age where she understands everything.
:-(
Re: I failed at breaking her pacifier habit this weekend
We did the "only in the crib" thing for a while. It's a good way to sort of wean them off of it.
Updated September 2012.
Ditto. It was a long process, but I think starting to do the "only when sleeping" thing is a great start! You'll get this, I promise.
Little kids get a great deal of comfort from sucking on a binkie; I wouldn't press till she was at least two. It's not going to kill her teeth.
Aw, I tried a few times also before Jackson bit the tip off of his binky. I cut it so it would be even and gave it back to him. After a few days he was done with it, I gave him a new binky on our flight a week later and he threw it on the ground.
If he hadn't bitten it off in the first place, I most likely would have waited until he was almost 2. I wouldn't worry about it too much yet.
Daycare is SO exhausting!

I'm even failing at the "only in the crib" thing. So now it is only in the crib, and only in the car, and only if she is screaming her head off while I'm trying to make dinner. Last week there was also only when Anna decides to randomly give her a pacifier, but we had a talk about that, so hopefully that one stops.
My problem is I am also trying to wean her from the boob, so that is only in the morning and only at bedtime if daddy is not there to put her down. But she is being super dramatic about the whole thing. Ugh.
(she is 20 months)
We also did the only when you're napping/sleeping thing. Once his molars started coming in he would chew the tips of his binkiesoff. Eventuall he chewed the last tip off and was told no more binkies. He was upset for all of 2 seconds and was fine.
Now he sleeps in a twin size bed and won't shut up when its bed time. He talks my ear off every evening before he falls asleep.
