5K to 8K

Hi Ladies,

There's a race this weekend that has a 5K and 8K - I want to sign up to do one of them, but want to be realistic about the distance. I can run 3 miles pretty easily and do it 3-4 times/week. I haven't run 5 miles in a long, long time but this is a flat course and another 2 miles doesn't seem like too big of a deal, especially with raceday adrenaline. I have the rest of this week to "train" but is the 8k doable, or should I just stick with what I know I'm comfortable with?

Re: 5K to 8K

  • I usually run 3 miles a few times and week and do 5K's a lot.  I do an 8K over Thanksgiving every year and it's totally doable, not even hard.  You will be fine.
  • I would do the 8K if you run 3 miles all the time. People always tell you only run like 3 miles to train for a 5 mile race.
