Um...is this an appropriate note for a teacher to leave?
I'm looking at open sub positions and one of the teachers (high school) left potential subs this note regarding her classroom:
"I'll leave plenty for my darlings to do...I'll encourage the few bad apples to stay home
"
I'm flummoxed. Why would someone think it's ok to say or do that? Or am I overreacting?
Re: Um...is this an appropriate note for a teacher to leave?
Oof. Those poor pigeonholed kids.
Updated September 2012.
Are you subbing for suesue?
Seems slightly inappropriate, but I'd assume it was tongue in cheek and she just has an odd sense of humor.
Agreed.
I'd find it funny. The teacher is not saying this truly to the kids. It is meant to be light hearted.
My DH in his lesson plans told the sub to take a nap during break and check up on the games
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
See, I want to think it was tongue in cheek (and I'm sure it is) but this is the note that was left on the online scheduling program for ALL potential subs to see when choosing jobs. It's not just a note that was left in the sub folder on the desk, in which case I'd probably think it was different.
Hey! I saw that.
Every teacher has their least favorite kids in class, I am sure. But I would not have put this in writing, lol.
lol - it was the "darlings" and "bad apples"! A language and tone thing, not content.
Okay now I am not okay with it
Okay now I am not okay with it
I am sure it was still just a joke. Obviously she can't encourage kids to stay home. And the term "bad apples" is so outdated. She probably just thought she was being cute.
lol phew! I was thinking omg! is it that apparent that I hated some of my students???
It is definitely tongue-in-cheek. It is definitely meant to be a joke. And it is definitely meant to be cute.
But it is still inappropriate.
I'm again reminded that everything I say is surely pissing off someone, somewhere.
