We went through all the photos you posted from your trip and the H said you are a really good photographer, and I wanted to pass on the compliment.   He is half German and spent some of his childhood over there, so I looked through them with him since he might have been to some of those places and those church pictures really wow'ed him.   He likes the angle you used on some of them, too, and said you have a great eye for it!

We also decided that the quality of your pics is so much better than our digital that it makes us want to get a better camera before our Alaska trip.  Smile  I am not sure if we will but your pics definitely made him realize how nicer the new cameras have become since we bought ours years ago.

  • Aw, thank you, OPS!  I didn't realize your H is half German.  Which area is his family from?

I had been wanting a DSLR for a long time but the price kept holding me back.  Then, when we decided to go to Europe we figured it would be worth it to splurge so we saved up and bought one right before the trip.  It was pricey but so worth it!  It's a Canon Rebel T2i and it's amazing how much faster and better quality it is than my old point-and-shoot, especially in low light.  I'm still new to using a DSLR and have more reading and experimenting to do, but overall it's very user friendly.  I love it and it's been fun to play around with the settings.  There's so much to learn and use.  I'd love to get photoshop sometime and take a photography class for fun, too.

I've already forgotten... When are you guys going to Alaska?  Alaska is amazing from what I've heard, and I think this sounds like the perfect time to splurge.  ;)

  • I believe most of his mom's family was originally from the Stuttgart area, but his dad was in the military so I think they transferred around quite a bit to different bases (he went to an American school while in Germany).      His mom still speaks perfect German and has a thick accent, I'll have to ask her the name of the town she grew up in because I can't remember it now.

We're going in mid-July to Alaska and can't wait to escape the heat that we'll be having here!    I downloaded The Alaska App for my iPad, which has a crapton of suggestions, guides, and tours and am already getting excited about the scenery.

  • That's neat.  I just looked up Stuttgart and it looks like it wasn't too far from where we were in the Romantic Road area.  I'd heard of it but didn't know where it was until now.

July sounds like the perfect time to go to Alaska!  MH always says the best time to go is during the summer.  I can't wait to see your pics.
