Do you think cherry colored cabinets are going OOS anytime soon?

I know, I know, it's impossible to predict trends and all of that.

But humor me.

Do you think cherry colored cabinets are on their way out?

More to the point, if I put cherry cabinets in my kitchen, do you think I'd live to regret it in two years or more like ten?

I want to stain our medium oak cabinets. H says no espresso. He's cool with espresso in the bathrooms but thinks it will make the kitchen look too small.

My next choice would be white, but it would look bad with the rest of our color scheme.

Re: Do you think cherry colored cabinets are going OOS anytime soon?

  • No. Maybe another color will be the popular trend, but I dont think cherry will go the way of oak.
  • Are we talking about the legitimately reddish cherry?  If so, yes, although I'd guess it's a trend that will probably last another couple years.

  • I think so - everyone seems to be going for that bright, open look. If you like cherry though, go for it.

    Have you considered antique/off white?

  • I actually think they are out of style now.  I do not see them in the model homes around here.  Also, we just went to a cabinet showroom to pick out cabinets for our new build and there wasn't a single cherry kitchen on display.
  • I think you should choose what you like rather than what is in style. I have never liked cherry colored cabinets. I am a fan of espresso. That is my personal taste. I like white as well. If you are concerned with re-sale, pick a cabinet color that is popular in your area. If not, go with the color you and your DH like.

PS: We have a small kitchen with all espresso cabinets and it is not dark. We have good natural light and we added recessed lights when we renovated. (see link below)

That's nice to hear. I think espresso would look great in our space. It's just a matter of getting DH to come around, which he's not inclined to do at the moment.

  • i agree with going w/ what you like... regardless of what's "in" at any given moment, if you go with what you like it will never go out of style.  ;)
