backyard activities/games?
We're hosting a cookout for the 4th of July (30-40 people, including children 3-7 years old). I'm trying to come up with some fun, relatively inexpensive games or activities that will keep the kids entertained and the adults can join in if they'd like.
We have a play set they can use and I'm also thinking we will put a slip and slide out and water balloons (obviously I'll tell parents to bring swimsuits for the kiddos). What other things can we have out and available? Any where can I buy them? tia
Re: backyard activities/games?
I'd probably skip the slip and slide and maybe just do one "organized" water balloon toss. Slip and slides can get dangerous and need a bit more supervision. We play a lot of cornhole/tailgate toss. A lot of our friends have the game so we'll just ask people to bring an extra set or so. Ladder golf is another simple one. You can pick up either one at Target.
Agreed with pp. Ladder Toss you can get at Menards (if you have) for $20 or less. Although you'd have to make sure you had enough space to avoid kids getting hit in the head with the balls.
What about backyard twister as seen on Pinterest?

They are not throwing golf balls. It's two plastic balls on a rope and you try to hit different rungs on the ladder.

Bucket toss; if you have cement: chalk for drawing; tic-tac-toe; cheaper rubber kickballs

The kids probably won't have the coordination or attention span to actually "play" ladder golf. We had it at our BBQ this weekend (for the adults) and the kids mostly took over just playing with the balls and hanging them on the rungs. LOL!
We got a bunch of chalk and bubbles from the Target $1 bin and that was a big hit!
If you also want to do something involving water (if it's going to be hot), maybe just get a sprinkler for the kids to run through. Much safer than a slip & slide and still just as fun for a little one.
