For those of you who workout 2x/day...
How do you fit it all in?
I am an early riser so I can wake up early and do running (just started C25k, week 1, day 2) or go to the gym, but how do you have enough time to work out after work, and then make & eat dinner at a reasonable hour?
fwiw, our gym is 10 mins from my work, and we live 30 mins from work...
Re: For those of you who workout 2x/day...
1. I usually work short hours (unless it is busy season) , and only for 180 days a year
2. I have workout opportunities at home (gym in apartment and a streaming fitness channel)
3. I'm not the cook in our household
4. My commute time is < 15 minutes
I don't workout at two different times during the day, but T and Th I workout for 1.5 - 2 hrs which puts me home around 7-7:30. I try and make enough food on Monday or Wednesday so that I don't have to cook after I go to the gym. Dinner is essentially warming leftovers up or having DH turn off the crock pot. If I don't have leftovers I will pickup a salad on my way home.
I get up between 5 and 5:30 to run. I CrossFit from 5:30 to 6:30 and am home by 6:45. I generally throw something together quickly for dinner, or I plan for my H to make dinner (which usually means he thaws something that I've prepared ahead of time...he just isn't a good cook). This isn't an everyday thing...usually 3 weekdays, maybe 4.
Right now, H is out of town, so I get home at 7-ish and throw together some leftovers or something for myself...I'm easy

Well now it's my job (to teach group fitness) and I fit in my other workouts when the kids are at school or I take them to the gym with me.
When I worked full time, I worked out early morning (up by 5 am at the latest to run) and usually went to the gym and took a group fitness class in the evening after work. I would occasionally go to the pool to swim laps on my lunch break as well.

I'm a student.. I have a two hour gap between two of my classes so I can run over to the rec center for some lifting.. and then when I get home in my local gym for my group classes.
Then on the days that I have off from classes (this quarter it's Wed) I have time to hit the morning AND evening classes.
This summer I will be done with college and with no job... I'm going to be a beast.
I usually do 2 workouts a day on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It looks like this:
Gym in the early morning (up at 4:45 and at the gym by 5 a.m.) for some cardio (usually 30-45 minutes of a spin class, the elliptical, or the AMT machine) and 30-40 minutes of weights. I'm usually at the gym for an hour and a half, give or take a few minutes. In order to get my early morning workout in, I am in bed, reading or watching t.v. by 8:30, lights out by 9pm. Lucky for me, my DH is also an early riser, so he doesn't mind going to bed at this time.
After work I run for anywhere from 30-60 minutes (either on my treadmill or outside.)
Like kirkette, I only work 180 days a year. I am also home from work by 3-4pm, depending on the day. My commute is less than 20 minutes and my gym is 1 mile away from my house. I do tutor one day after work and that's the day I only get my morning workout in because yes, then I am home much later than usual (usually 6:30pm) and want to do things around my house, spend time with DH, cook, eat, etc.
Is there anyway you could go to the gym before work, shower there, go to work, and then do your running after work, outside? It might save you some time, since I imagine your commute from the gym after work might be longer than just going straight home after work.

I'm a SAHM, so my schedule (or lack there of), probably won't help much. It is nice now when the 2 older ones have school (dd full day, ds a few hours 2x a week). I'm a little nervous about Sunmer, but I know I still have it easier than when I was a working mom. My running is during school, during DS's (non-negotiable!) quiet time, or when DH watches the kids. I usually do strength in the evenings at home since the kids are all down by 7:30 and DH works evenings.
When I was working (with and w/o kids), I would do early Morning or evenings, plus a work out in the company gym at lunch. That was a nice perk!

I either work out early in the morning before work or during lunch. My second workout is usually weights or yoga and I will usually do it after dinner, around 7:30 or 8:00pm. Sometimes I will do my workout before dinner so I'm eating dinner until around 8pm. My second workout is at home.
Before I had a child, I would do my second workout after work so I wasn't eating until around 8-8:30.
I workout 2x a day on some days of the week. This is how I do it:
Go to the gym btwn 5:30-5:45 am (it is a 3 min drive). Either do my own workout or go to a class.
Come home, get ready for work (which is a 7 min drive) or I bike to work. If I do not bike to work, I bring my workout clothes and do a DVD at home after work.
The gym is CROWDED in the evenings (from 5-8) so I avoid it during those times.
I work out during the day for my first workout, then go back with DH after he gets off work for a 2nd workout. We live about 20 minutes from the gym, so it's usually about a 2 hour chunk of time, each time.
The simplest answer is that we don't always eat dinner at a "reasonable" hour. We've become very european recently, in that we prefer to eat at 8pm or later for dinner. I try to prep everything for dinner (thaw meat, chop veggies, etc) prior to leaving for the gym, then all I have to do when I get home is sear/roast/saute/whatever until everything is cooked. I also try to plan easy, 1/2hour cooking time or less meals.
Finally, the crock pot is your friend. Our earliest meals (usually around 7:30 or 8) are those that I've put into the crock pot, so all I have to do when we get home is serve. Well, crock pot or leftovers.
I don't work, so I don't have a work schedule to go around, but I do have my girls in school on different days and so I'm limited by childcare and the super hot weather here now.
I work out early in the morning and then try to limit my daytime workouts for the gym. My husband does the majority of his workouts during his lunch break at his gym, so that's another option for you since it sounds like your work close to your gym.
And I don't cook either, at least not most of the time. I'll cook if hubs missed his workout due to a meeting or something like that, but most of the time he cooks and if I need to, I can slip out for about 45 minutes to catch up on if I've missed a workout or take the dogs on a long walk, etc.

Ditto.
I have a gym in my garage that includes a spinning bike, a TRX, and a heavy punching bag. Sometimes a 15 minute HIIT session in the morning is a great wake up.
I'm usually home from work by 4, and DS sleeps til 5:45am. So I can easily get up at 5 and workout again from 4 to 5.
