Anybody's kids have growing pains?

P keeps saying her legs hurt, and I swear she is getting taller while I watch her. What worked for your kid? I tried to massage them, but she didn't like that.

I think Will has been going through some of this lately, but not super bad.

However, I remember my brother being 5 or 6, and he would cry and cry and cry about how bad his legs hurt. My parents took him to the doctor, specialists, etc. and they eventually determined it was growing pains.

    I like privacy. A lot.
  • Oh, yeah, my parents also took me to CHOP, they thought I had arthritis and everything else. I remember the pain being more in my bones so I don't know what you could do about that

  • My youngest son has them fairly often.  My pedi says they are definitely real and the only thing that ever really worked for him was tylenol.  Randomly, I remember my boss telling me many years ago that her son who is now 21 had them so bad they ended up taking him to the doctor and he had some Rx meds for it.  She was basically warning me to listen if one of them started complaining about growing pains... that it was real
  • So this is odd but my brother and I both had terrible growing pains as kids. My mom would wrap up our legs as tight as she could in hot  towels from the dryer. It was probably just mental, but it really seemed to help at the time.

    I actually kinda miss that.

this sounds really soothing. I had really bad growing pains when I was a kid, too.
  • L has not, but one of my good friend's kids did. I think they gave her ibuprofen.

  • I used to get knee cramps.

Drinking more milk/eating more cheese helped.

My son would come to me with tears in his eyes that his legs and hips hurt and I would give him Tylenol and put my heating pad on his hips.   He is now 6'5.

  • Yep.  DD did many times over the years. I think she is glad she is finally full grown.
