when you decorate what comes first

I am in the process of turning my bedroom into a hotel room. I do not want to change out furniture or the carpet.. I am looking for new bedding, curtains, lamps and, a few accents.

I want to tie everything together so what should I buy first?

this room (i dont know who to give credit to but i love it) is wonderful. i am not planning to use the same colors but i love how the black ties in every where from the bed cover to the lamp to the frames above the bed and on the night stand. I want ot create something like this. WHERE DO I START

Re: when you decorate what comes first

  • I would start out with your bedding first and then find a paint color that goes well with that! There are TONS of paint colors but only a few different options when your looking for bedding in a specific color. After that you can look for your drapes to coordinate with your bedding! It looks like in the photo above everthin is pretty custom. So if you cant find the exact color to go with your bedding I would go with white to keep the light feel of the room. You could even add a black trim to the drapes!

I've seen a light fixture like that at world market! i just talked about it on my style monday last week! its super cheap and looks amazing!

    good luck!

You don't need to advertise your blog at the end of each post, especially when it's already in your siggy. Blog showoff day on here is Tuesdays. General blogwhoring isn't looked on real favorably on this board. If you do that, it will backfire. Ywia.

  • I would say bedding if it's something with a pattern, for that room, it looks like they used the bedding and the artwork really start the room.

Plus that room really has just a handful of colors.  Gray, black, and white are the main colors with green coming from the flower

  • agree w/ PP's - bedding first!
  • Though I would agree with the bedding suggestion, I would also recommend looking at your drapery options, especially if you are trying to use a pattern. I personally find these two items to be the most difficult items to coordinate, so when I look, I try to tackle both of these items together.
