Question for those who are very familiar with MAC eyeshadows

If I look at swatches online, these are the colors I am drawn to.  However, if I were to buy a palette of only these shadows, are there enough that work together to create different looks?

Amber Lights

Expensive Pink

Woodwinked

Swish

Shimmermoss

Plumage

Sky blue

Beautiful Iris

Seedy pearl

Shale

Sable

Cork

Naked lunch

All that glitters

Shroom

Re: Question for those who are very familiar with MAC eyeshadows

  • I used to wear expensive pink and cork together almost every day. It wasn't as bright as you would think...I really liked it. I usually wear 2-3 colors a day and cork used to always be the contour for whatever other shade I'd wear. It worked really well with my skin (NC15).

ETA: I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I just wanted to say that those two particular colors look awesome together.

  • Was I a bad influence? ;op

FWIW, I'm planning on going to a mac counter and oogling all the shades before purchasing online.

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.
  • I'm into more neutral colors and I have about 1/2 those colors.  I can do many looks with them.  You have a good mix of fun and every-day in there.
  • Seedy Pearl is very dense and really opalescent. It's not a bad color, it's just really opaque, which I don't think comes across on the online swatch.

You'll love all those colors. Amber Lights is just about the pretties shadow out there, IMO.  I wear that, or Naked Lunch, a lot. A lot, a lot!

  • I like to have at least one or two darker, preferably matte/ satin shades to deepen the crease or smudge at the lash line. Examples: embark, handwritten, brun, espresso.

eta: after reviewing again, plumage could probably do the job, although I'm not sure how it would look with some of your warmer colors like expensive pink, amber lights.

  • I would want one dark color for the crease or outer v...but I like a pretty dark outer v.

I have lots of those colors, they are all nice! I don't see a highlight shade though...you might want to choose brule or blanc type as a highlight those are my favs.

shroom is a good warm highlight, but i agree i would like a darker color for a crease or outer v, otherwise i think you have a good range of fun and everyday wear.

This was my thought, as well. If you're looking for a pearly color, check out Motif. (Geeze, I talk about Motif A LOT.) Otherwise, good choices! I have every color, and yeah, you can get a lot of looks out of them.

  • I love woodwinked, all that glitters & shroom

This entire board is a bad influence!  lol.  I keep saying I'm going to cut back on F&B spending, but there are so many fun products I keep learning about on here.  For a couple of months I've been thinking about getting some MAC shadows, and really, really want expensive pink and amber lights.  So your post reminded me of this :)

Oh, well, I guess there are worse things I could be spending my money on.  It's not that we NEED me to cut back, but sometimes I feel a little silly when I think about what I'm spending on this stuff (especially makeup) since it's really not necessary.  It's just so damn fun, though :)

  • Thanks everyone for your responses!  I think I'll do a different color in place of seedy pearl.  I rarely ever use dark colors, but for the few occasions when I do want a darker color for a v or crease, I can use a dark color from other palettes I have - such as the Too Faced Naked Eye or The Balm Nude Tude.
