Well of course he does, why else would I marry him? Anyhow FI is changing jobs, had his last day yesterday (was supposed to work all week but his truck is back in the shop because the rear-end that they just replaced is going bad) and is starting a new job much much closer next week.
He calls me on his way home yesterday and tells me that he has a surprise for me. I asked him what it was and he gave me hints that I finally guessed to be one of these (not my pic):
This is the third one he's brought home. The first two are about 5' in diameter and about counter height. They are going to be turned into an outdoor dining table (hole in the middle is perfect for an umbrella), and a basement game table.
This one is the same diameter, but much shorter, maybe only 2.5' tall. So what am I going to do?
A coffee table!!! I'm going to pad and upholster the top of it and add shelves/dividers for books and such in the middle and put it on small feet.
Some wives/girlfriends would hate their men for bringing home free crap like this, but this spool made my week
Re: FI knows exactly how to make my day
I would kill for one of those!
The only spools we have laying around anymore are from tile lines and they're crappy plywood or plastic...nothing fun!
Same here.
I have wanted to do something with one for years, but we never find good spools. The one halfway decent one that we found wound up becoming a giant mushroom in Alice in Wonderland, for the professional dance company that I worked for.
It wasn't what I had in mind for it, but I got to make the mushroom, and it was pretty cool.
Ohhh..good to know..there's actually one not too far from here! We had some really nice ones in the barn from old projects when we first got married, but they'd been out there so long they were all musty and rotted away. ;(
The mushroom sounds fun at least
Another idea is if you have any road construction projects going on, they usually have spools and if you ask they will tell you when you can stop by to pick them up. We have a huge project going on just North of us and they let us take a few random shaped pieces of junk concrete so FI and his buddies could rock crawl on them. They pay for trash hauling by the pound so any of that stuff that you will take off their hands they are usually happy to do it.
