Maternity Exercise Clothes

Hi ladies,

It's been a long time since I've been around here, but I'm chugging along on the H&F front.  I am 20 weeks pregnant, and am I'm looking for some cute maternity exercise clothes.  Can anyone recommend anything from personal experience?

I have a For Two Fitness "Running for Two" tank that I like, but I want something that isn't so in your face "I'm pregnant."

I can still wear my current exercise clothes, but shirts are getting shorter and shorter each week.

Thanks!

Re: Maternity Exercise Clothes

  • I got some Old Navy tanks and just wore my regular pants under my belly.

  • I can be really cheap sometimes. I didn't buy maternity exercise clothes. I started wearing my husband's exercise clothes instead.

  • Lululemon Cool Racerback tanks are my savior.  I wore them pre-pregnancy, but they are super long, soft, and stretchy and I still have plenty of length on them despite having a sizeable bump now.  I have no doubt I'll be able to wear them until the bitter end, and that they'll shrink back for normal use post-pregnancy too.  (The Fitnessista blogger wore these during pregnancy, too, and raved about them.)  Worth every penny.

One of my pregnant friends at CrossFit actually asked me about where I'd gotten mine because she saw how long it was and wanted one too!

I wore the racerbacks to the end, and they do still look good post pregnancy. For colder outdoor work outs I used DH's long sleeved running shirts. My yoga pants and running shorts all fit fine under the belly, but some of that might be how you carry.

  • I no longer belong to a gym, so my workouts were at home or outside. By the time I wasn't fitting in stuff, I was just using our home treadmill, so I wore H's t shirts. I know, not much help :)

The things that did work for me were my lululemon pants and my reebok running tights. Otherwise most of my shorts worked under my belly.

  • I just went to Target and bought larger sizes of capri pants, mesh shorts and their loose-fit shirts.  I hated the stuff I tried on at Motherhood and I am trying to be conservative about my maternity spending - Target did the job for me.  I tried to get away with my current gear, but I am carrying pretty low so my pants started to get uncomfortable.

  • I didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on maternity clothes that I'd only get to wear for a few months, so I went to Target and bought some tops in from the C9 line in XL. They worked really well.

Somehow I was still able to wear my regular workout bottoms... maybe because they had an elastic waist and were really stretchy? I wore them under my belly with a really long top to cover everything.

  • I got some Target shirts a size up, but its getting tighter and shorter now as the bump gets bigger. The knee pants and running shorts I got at Target are still just fine, I went a size up. Old Navy has some good stuff too. I got an actual maternity compression tank that is nice and long, compression shorts (i wanted capris, but it is starting to get very hot in Fresno, so I got the shorts figuring I would wear them longer), and in the regular women's sizes, I got 4 of the bubble hem workout tanks from ON, these should work until the end. I went a size up in these. They're a bit large now, but work, and have tons of room to grow.

  • I am just wearing my regular shorts & carpis (sit well below my belly) and I picked up a couple larger size C9 tanks from target.

  • I didn't buy any maternity, but Under Armour makes some tanks that are long. They covered my belly even at 39 weeks. For pants, I bought some VS yoga pants. They have a really high foldover waist, and I just folded them down under my belly after I got too big to wear them over. This worked out well for me, because I still wear these workout clothes today.

  • The Target C9 tanks have been working pretty well for me. I love the fit of my Two for Fitness tank and they so sell their shirts without the sayings on them, so you can always try the plain ones from there too.

Thanks ladies. I'll check out the Lululemon tanks.

Do you have a Costco? They have identical tanks for $12.99 instead of paying lululemon prices.

For Two Fitness is sold out of all the tanks without the sayings.  Bummer, or I would buy some.

  • I got some maternity workout tshirts and shorts online from JCPenney a few years ago. Old Navy has some maternity workout clothes online right now.
