Daycare Questions

DH and I are starting to look at daycare, we are looking into both centers and in-home daycares. Today we are touring a center. Any advice/stuff to look for/suggestions? Also, is it common to get on the waiting list for several daycares? Daycare here looks to be about $300/week on the low end for a center, which makes me want to cry.

  • trust your gut

we've done both in-home and a center.  both kids are at a center now.  In the infant room, I enjoy that they supply the formula, the DS has a crib assigned to him and that doesn't change, that the keep the ratio's below the required.  Is the staff friendly to you and the kids?

if your area has/needs waiting lists, I'd get on a few of them.

  • See what their security is like. Secure entrance/exit, camera's in the room, etc. Make sure everyone in the center is SIDS and CPR trained. What do they provide vs. expect you to bring in? What do they charge for late pick ups? Can you drop by at any time with no notice?

Get references and call all of them. And as the PP said, trust your gut. If you have the tiniest feeling that it's not the right place, then it isn't.
