s/o diploma: How about a dog portrait? :)
We bought a custom dog portrait at my daughter's school auction. We actually have two dogs so we're going to buy another one, and the artist is coming over tomorrow to meet our dogs and take some photos.
Would you think we were crazy pet people if you walked in and this was hanging in our living room?

Our decor is pretty casual (don't have a formal living room) so we'll likely either hang it there or in the basement family room.
Here's an example of her work - it will be a 12"x12" canvas.

We have two pugs and have paintings of them hanging in our LR
After all, their more like children right?
I have 2 framed photos of my dog in the living room and this in the entry way:
go for it

The Baloney Bug, A Blog
I completely agree (and was mostly joking with this post). We've been in our house just over three years and still have a number of walls to fill. But we just aren't the type to go our and buy random artwork - it has to have meaning to us in some way.
I love all the other pet artwork people have
I'm the starter of the wedding portrait/diploma posts, and I also have pet portraits to put up, too. lol
Those are definitely going up in "public areas", for sure!
My Home Bio
I have two watercolors I did of our dogs hanging in a hallway
My Valentine Bookends (2~13~13, 2~15~09)
We have a 16x20 canvas of our two dogs together in our office.
I see NOTHING wrong with this . :-)
I'm a crazy dog person, so I would love that.
In our guest room, I have a picture of every foster dog we have ever had.
My IF blog
It fits my criteria...it is meaningful, and it is art.
I actually have a fine art print of a painting that an artist painted of two of my dogs. Our breeder has the original oil painting, but she keeps telling me that it will be mine some day.
Our print is hanging in one of the guest rooms, because it fit that room the best of any rooms in our home. I tried it in one of the more used rooms, but it just didn't work there.
I love it because it is a beautiful painting of our dogs that mean so much to us, but if I was going to commission a painting, I would have one more like what your artist paints. Something like that would probably be a better fit in our home.
I love it..
first, they are not to large... which is good IMHO.
second, they tell your story, which is also think is good and important.
third, you're supporting a local artist, which is awesome!
fourth, super cute!
People have tons of pictures of their kids and their weddings all over their homes... (which I don't like, but whatever) why not have two pictures of your adorable dogs?
It's your house, make it your home. What ever makes you feel comfy.
Have fun!
