Re: If I were interested in cycling??

  • my local tri shop has a beginner road bike package for $799 and it includes a bike, helmet, jersey and I think shorts.  It does not include clipless pedals or shoes.  A bigger chain bike store has a beginner package for $999 that includes bike, helmet, jersey, shorts, and clipless pedals.

So if you don't know anything about bikes and cycling, start at your local bike or tri shop and talk to them.  Also, most bike shops rent bikes by the week, so if you don't want to make a huge investment, that might be the best way to start.

  • I would echo the sentiment of checking out local bike shops (LBS) and asking lots of questions.  Some shops are more helpful than others so I too encourage shopping around.  Also, different brands of bikes may feel different when you ride them so another advantage of checking out different shops is being able to try different brands (or renting them as PP stated).  You can get into a road bike and helmet for less than $1K.  The nice thing about bikes is that you can always upgrade.  Smile
  • The local bike shop is your best bet. See my bio for plenty of bike buying advice.

This.  Well, see Sadlebred's bio, not mine.  Mine has triathlon info.
