New here with a question! =)

Hey ya'll. Im new to this board, but Ill probably be here a while because our house is no where near finished yet! Me and my fiance are renting a house that needed a little (...alot) TLC. My fiance is a contractor and does renovations on houses for a living so the landlord made him a deal to waive the monthly rent as long as we are still working to fix the house. We've been workin non-stop for 3 months and still have ALOT to do!

But my questions is about paint colors. My finace has a 2 year old son that we be getting full custody of very soon and we need to get his room fixed ASAP. We both agree that we like thecolor orange for his room. And Im talking bright, Harley-Davidson orange! My fiance is worried that the landlord wont like the bright orange room. Hes suggested we do it a lighter orange, but I dont think the light orange will go well with his Harley themed room. Any suggestions? Should we change his theme?

  • If you don't mind doing the amount of work it will take to paint over the orange (well) the landlord probably won't mind.  But what about doing a sort of grayish paint color and just using the HD orange/black scheme for the comforter, wall art, etc?

Something similar to this (yes, I realize this isn't a kids room, but you get the idea):

    With wall art like this:

  • I would go neutral and spice it up with accessories. You could always paint the walls a nice gray, that should be neutral enough yet a little better than white. Since you're essentially working the house for a client IE your landlord, you should focus on neutral and resell rather than personal style.
  • How long are you going to be staying there? If it's quite awhile and you don't mind repainting down the line I'd call your landlord and ask. Chances are he won't care as long as you repaint.

If it's just a little bit of time, I'd say it's not worth the work and go neutral.

I know it's for a "client' but it's your house in the meantime too. Also, most people don't mind bold colors as long it's contained to one room and a kid's room especially. If you were doing the LR bright orange I'd have a different opinion.

  • I like the idea of gray/silver walls with the HD theme!

We still havent found the bed set we want to try and match yet. I will probably wind up making him a black/orange/gray quilt.

We will be there for a while. My fiance will be fixing the landlords other rental houses and working on his farm. But when he runs out of work to do to waive rent, the rent is only $350 for a 3 bedroom house. Its rare you find a deal that good on a house in decent condition. I don't see us moving any time soon!

  • 350 bucks a month to renovate a house doesn't quite seem fair hah.
