I think it's so weird kids don't get chicken pox anymore.

When I was a whippersnapper, moms took kids chicken pox parties at whoever was infected's house to get it out of the way.

Except I never caught it and ended up not getting chicken pox until I was 12 and it sucked.

I guess anti-vaxxer kids can have a good old fashioned poxy childhood.

  • wait until you get shingles. :)  Just went through a round of that and OMG... SUCKED.  And from what I found in my research, I don't think mine was nearly as bad as what I saw some pictures of.

  • The parties always remind me of the South Park episdoe where the kids steal the parents' toothbrushes and give them all herpes.

    Herpes. Ha.

  • My mom had them the same time I did.  I ended up having to take care of her it was so bad.

  • My mom ditched us with my Aunt Nancy when we were 4 and 6 so she could go live on the Navajo reservation for the summer, and while she was gone, my brother, my two cousins and I all got the chicken pox.  I still feel sorry for my Aunt Nancy.

I do not, in any way, consider myself and anti-vaxer, but I never intended to give my kids this specific vaccination.

I changed my mind this year and went through with it only b/c you get ZERO options as an employee when it comes to taking care of your children.

I have three kids, if they all got pox one after the other, I could possibly be out of work for 2 weeks taking care of them.

FMLA will not cover you if caring for a person with chicken pox.  Which I think is shiit.

    I realized I couldn't take this chance.

I cannot imagine both the kids having chicken pox, one after the other. Aside from teh sheer misery of the illness, and the scarring, it's the staying home for weeks. OMG. Our school/daycare wouldn't let kids back until ALL their scabs had fallen off, which for some people was three to four WEEKS. And you had to keep paying daycare, too, even if your kid was not there for three weeks, or you'd lose your place.

My kids were vaccinated as soon as that sucker was available.

  • My youngest had the shot and he developed the pox.  Like three poxes (poxi?).  It was a super mild case and he was back on the streets in no time.  lol

  • We had it go through my former child care center.  It started in the infant room with a baby who was too young to be vaccinated (I don't know where he got it).  His mom got it and then a few kids who had siblings in the infant room got it.  I worked it way through the building through siblings.  Everyone who got it was vaccinated except for the infant and they all had very mild cases.
