When you crumble your cake to make the balls or pops, do you crumble by hand like Bakerella recommends or use a food processor? Pops/balls are always so hard for me b/c when I crumble by hand, I wind up with some bigger bits that make the balls lumpy. I've never tried using a food processor but thought I may give it a whirl. Also, I only have to make 12 pops so I am going to use the tops I have (after leveling some cakes) in the freezer....so they'll be thawed out, wondering if I need to let the cake sit uncovered a while to "dry out" a bit before trying to crumble.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I hate making pops/balls b/c rolling them is always so difficult for me. Mine are always lumpy. I guess with more practice, I'll get better.
Thanks for any advice............
Re: ? about cake pops
my food blog
I've always crumbled by hand, but I don't have a food processor. Sounds like it would be a neat thing to try, though.
My cake balls aren't ever that lumpy, though - I suspect because I use lots of frosting, lol. Blends together better I guess.
The edges of the cakes tend to be harder and gave mine lumps to, so I just started throwing them away and cruble the rest by hand, works great!
