So. I went INTO Home Depot to try and schedule an in-home appointment with someone who could represent all the brands they carry (or a large portion of them.)
They told me no can do. That they do not have one person who reps all the lines and that I need to make individual appointments with all the manufacturers.
The Hunter Douglas lady was relentless and kept calling me (I sent her calls to v.m. until I could figure out if I could get one person for all lines.) I spoke with her yesterday and she was doing her best to be professional about the way HD handles the in home design stuff, but I read between the lines and could tell the vendors thought there process was dis-organized and kinda crappy.
I didn't mention it to her, but the guy I spoke to at HD look shocked when I asked if they had samples of Hunter Douglas shutters in the store...he was like "they make shutters?"
ugggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Re: Yet another follow-up to my shutter/shade situation.
Have you tried Lowes? I was looking at custom shades (casually looking) and they had samples/pricing for several major brands in their store. The sales person said they could sit with me and look at options if I ever wanted.
We had their kitchen department do a quote for cabinets for us, and they were able to give us pricing and speak about all the major brands they carry. Perhaps their window shade dept. is similar.
We do have a Lowes across town (which means 25 minutes - I live in the Bay Area)...I need someone to come to our house to measure, etc. HD will sit down with me in store as well.
I may call Lowes to find out if they have one person who rep's a number of the manufacturers...
I would imagine that if you picked out custom shades/shutters at Lowes, they'd come out and measure before ordering. I know they did that with carpet for us, but it was at HD which.. obviously, you've already had issues with.
Good luck!
