House Plants in a Basement Apartment

Hi there, we are moving into a basement apartment in 2 weeks and I'd really like to add some house plants but I'm not sure which ones will be ok with low light.  Also, we have an indoor cat so it can't be poisonous.  Any suggestions?

Here is a list of non-poisonous plants (cat related). Not sure about light amount needs though.

Bamboo doesn't need much light.

I kill pretty much every indoor plant I come in contact with, including cactus. But my bamboo thrives. 

They make it in all shapes now, straight or twisted. Mine has grown leaves.

Ditto the bamboo. I have two that are year old (leftover centerpieces from my parents' anniversary party). I kill every houseplant I come in contact with but these are thriving.

I had a peace lily in my basement office in school for years too and it thrived!

Lysmachia Golden Globes is a really nice plant in a hanging basket.  They do well with lower light and are non-toxic to pets (having 3 dogs and a cat, we have to check everything before we bring it home).  Good luck!
