My husband is going to be coming home from deployment... 6 days later it is his birthday. I was thinking of getting us tickets for Cirque du soleil for his birthday, a 1pm show. 1. is that a good gift? I think he'd like that kind of thing... we saw acrobats in China, been to broadway shows, the opera, the ballet... so he is definitely not against that sort of thing! it's not like you have to drag him, either. and 2. Is 6 days after he returns too soon to book something? Just wondering what you guys think. Thanks!
Re: Ques!!
1. YES that sounds like a really fun gift.
2. I don't think that is too soon to book something for him. I bet he would enjoy it. Get his mind off of work and military stuff for a bit. I say go for it. And then tell us how he liked it and how you liked it.
1. If he liked the show in China then I think it sounds fun! You could do that and then go out for drinks afterward. Sounds like a good gift to me. He will just be happy to have you near him again
2. That COULD be too soon. Do you know their history as far as ETA and delays? H's deployment return is usually a good two week window until we get into the final month, and then it can be narrowed down to about 3 days. Could you ask him about how SURE he is about his arrival date, and what would be the LATEST he would return? That might help you decide.
They actually gave us a landing time! so I'm not too worried though I KNOW things can change. I can always wait until we get closer and see how it is looking. But yeah, worst case scenario, I'd bring a friend.
I was more worried about him being tired or wanting to relax and not knowing if 6 days was enough time for that.
I would still be weary. We had a landing time & arrival time but 2 days out they were still delayed. It took a week to get back versus the 2 days to get there.
This. Their airplane literally broke while landing on US soil and they were stuck across the states for several days. Life happens lol.
Also, it depends on his weariness with crowds and loud sound/music. Only you and he know what this deployment has been like for him. If this were my H, I would wait and in his card tell him that's what I wanted to get him. Then he can let me know if/when he is ready for that type of environment.
We love cirque so the gift idea is awesome.
