Ds was just diagnosed with asthma. :(

First well child check I've ever missed and he had to have his first treatment right there.  I suspected this all along, but was hoping I was wrong.  We have to give him neb treatments every 4 hours.

Is it weird I am fighting back tears while waiting for his rx?

Not wierd at all.  When anything is wrong with our kids, it guts us.  I'm really sorry to hear this.

  • oh, I'm so sorry.  I know you had suspicions earlier, but it stinks to have them confirmed.

On the bright side, he will start feeling better. Also, my nephew now only needs the neb treatment when he is sick.

  • I'm so sorry :(:(:(

Just remember - asthma is to the lungs what eczema is to the skin.  It's all the same thing, just affects different parts of the body.  DD got through her eczema stuff and he will get through the asthma!  I truly hope this is something he outgrows.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, you know how to reach me if you need support.

    XOXO.

    Oh no :(

does it have anything to do with his dog allergy?

    Floyd P. Bamker - can't spell
  • I cry when we have to do the nebulizer too.  It makes J crazy for about 30 minutes but then he feels so much better.  Hugs...

  • Sorry to hear that jaylea.

How long will he have to do the treatments?

    Anniversary
  • May be triggered by the dog - we go to the allergy & asthma doc in a few weeks and will know more then.

I just remember my brother having asthma attacks as a kid and I am terrified of being the parent in that scenario.

I'' just feeling really stressed out and overwhelmed right now.

  • I'm sorry Jaylea.   The whole dog situation has to just be an added stress to all of this.  They have tested Jackson twice now for dog allergy because it is apparently such a huge trigger for asthma.

For the daily nebulizer treatments I rely heavily mickey mouse and his clubhouse to keep Jackson happy.  I also do the last treatment after he goes to bed.

Is he on singulair and/or zyrtec?

The asthma attack worry gets me also.  I had the doctor give me a rescue inhaler with a spacer that I carry around with me now since the neb isn't always readily available.

If you have any questions, give me a yell.

Karma- is he on albuterol?  Is it making him pissed he is doing it or jumpy?  If it is jumpy as your doc about xopenex, same active ingredient, less side effects.

  • It's understandable to be teary, but don't worry   Everyone in my family has asthma, you deal with it and it's not a problem.  I do my preventative inhaler every morning and night and I always carry my rescue inhaler with me.  I went to the hospital 14 years ago with an asthma attack, but after the treatment, I felt great!  I got on new meds and haven't had an asthma attack since.  My brother had tons of bad asthma attacks as a kid and he's fine.  Having asthma is just my normal.

You may have to get rid of any pets, but it's a small price to pay to feel healthy.

  • I had asthma as a kid too, but was diagnosed when I was old enough to be able to communicate that something was going on.

I'm so worried I'm either going to miss the signs of distress, or overreact at every turn. Last night his breathing was still noisy and his chest was still pulling in with each breath, but once he fell asleep he was okay.

We're now 4 treatments in and he seems to be doing okay - just really congested and grumpy.
