Dog harness help

My dog is 60 lbs and is so hard to walk. I have a great dane/lab that walks like a breeze! I am wondering what kind of leader or harness will help me walk her without being dragged.

Re: Dog harness help

  • We have the Easy Walk Harness for our 80lb GSD. We tried every harness imaginable and nothing helped. When we took him to training class, our trainer suggested this one and let us use during the class to test it before buying it. It attaches to the leash at his chest, instead of at the back like a lot of harnesses. He is a piece of cake to walk now. Partially due to training, partially due to the harness.

ETA: We liked it so much we use one for our husky mix as well.

Ditto on the Easy Walk Harness....

We put our boxer in one anytime we know she's going to be rowdy - crowds, public, parks, etc. It works great!!

I'm personally not a fan of harnesses. Dogs that are meant for racing (sled dogs) wear harnesses because they are made for pulling. I would look into either a gentle leader or a pinch collar (I know there is a lot of controversy around these but they do work!) and more training!

    This.

We have one for your lab. He pulls on the leash and has an odd shaped head so he would pull out of his collar - no matter how tight.

He "thinks" he's in control, but really you have more control - I felt "safer" walking him (meaning I didn't think he was going to rip my arm off or pull me down the street) and he's happier, too!

  • Another vote for the Easy Walk!  My dog and I were a disaster waiting to happen before we got one.

  • Another fan of the Easy Walk. Our 94# poodle does not pull me when we're walking but if he sees a squirrel, he'll try to take off. The Easy Walk makes it more controllable.
