Trundle with normal bed

I'm starting to look for DS's "big boy" bedroom furniture on CL and trundles aren't a common find on there - I lost out on the deal of the week yesterday :-(  Has anyone had a good experience with adding a trundle to a normal twin bed?

Thanks!

Re: Trundle with normal bed

  • I don't know if it helps, but we plan to get the Hemnes daybed from IKEA for DS's big boy room.  The three drawers are for storage, but there's also an extra set of slats built-in, so you can pull the drawers all the way out, pull the slats all the way out, and then flip the mattress from double-width to single-width so the bed sleeps two.  That seems more useful to me than wasting all the underbed storage space on a trundle, which will likely only get used every so often.  If you click on the second picture you can see how it is pulled out.

We looked at the Hemnes, but didn't like the back on it since it would limit the room layout.  The extra storage isn't a big deal since he has plenty with his closet, dresser & armoire.

I always wondered how that one pulled out though, thanks for the explanation.

My only concern is that the twin bed wouldn't be high enough to fit the trundle underneath. DD's bed has a low and a high setting, the high is for when you have a trundle underneath, and the low is for otherwise.

  • What's your budget?  I think I've seen some relatively inexpensive trundle beds on JCP, etc.  The Ethan bed looks just like the CL one you wanted, although it's $350 and the trundle is an extra $200.  :-(  But it has great reviews, and I've been very happy with my JCP furniture.
