rabid skunks in Merrimack

So yesterday Eugene called Animal Control because we clearly had a rabid skunk in our yard ... the poor thing was ambling alllll around our yard and street ... having NO idea where it was going or what it was doing.  When the cop arrived to our house, it had gone off into the woods but he said that he;d already shot one that day and two the day before, due to rabies.  I'm glad I wasn't here to see it ... I know it's the "humane" thing to do because rabies is painful for the animal but it makes me sad, nonetheless.

Re: rabid skunks in Merrimack

  • Yikes! We have a skunk that lives somewhere around our house - Tom saw it the other night when coming in from work - I'll have to warn him - I mean you'd want to stay away from a skunk anyways, but rabies is scary!
  • Sad yes, but also kind of scary if you ask me!!  I'd be so leery about playing outside or going for walks!
  • nah, they haven't charged anyone, just ambling around like they don't know what they're doing.  Poor things.  Yesterday on my way down to CT I saw a fawn on the side of the highway that'd been hit and that broke my heart, too.
