f/u to my vent (still long)

SO I sent an e-mail to my mom telling her my feelings.

All she tells me is that she thinks they don't respect me, since I put so much time and effort in to Jacob. ?That she doesn't feel the MIL or FIL are ghetto, just SIL.

And she doesn't like it that she always has to come over here and call ahead of time to let me know she is coming in order to see Jacob.

?Oh, and that she is not asking me to exclude anyone.

I responded back to her:

You are asking me to exclude someone by saying if you are inviting them, then don't invite me. ?That I do not feel disrespected in any way by my in laws, and that the way SIL takes care of her child is in no way a reflection on me or Jacob.

The few times I have wanted to take Jacob over to her house I have called, and she has refused. ?I told her that when her house is clean, to call me and we will gladly come and visit her. ?And as far as calling before going to visit someone that it is only polite to call and see if they are available for visitors.?

I then proceeded to invite her to Thanksgiving at our house & told her that DH's family is invited too, all of them.

I also asked her to respect me and not talk about them around me.

We'll see what she comes back with.

Thanks for listening.?

  • (((hugs))) I am glad that you are able to share your feelings with your mom. You are doing the right thing.
  • I forgot to ask, did your son hear all of this taking place during Halloween??

  • I'm really glad you got a chance to talk to you your mom. It is really difficult to be put in that position. I think you did the right thing. Good luck! ((hugs))

  • Sorry to hear that you are having problems. I don't know what I would do in your place and would be very upset with my mother and you are handling it well. Hopefully she will come around and figure out how much she will be missing if she continues to be stubborn.

Yes she did do it in front of Jacob & that is why I am trying to squash it now before he really starts understanding what she is saying.?

  • Oh wow....terrible, just terrible.

I really hope you are able to work this out with your Mom because it's scary how quickly kids pick up on things like this. I cannot even vent in my own home because my son's little ears are always on alert:)

I wish you all the best...and hope your Mom realizes how much she has to lose.

  • Glad you are able to express your feelings to your mom---that's the best (and only) thing you can do. I hope the situation gets better.
