I work from home now.
I'm learning my dog's habits.
5:30...i wake up, let him out, shower etc...he's with me.
6:00 he goes back to bed.
9:00 he comes out to look at me. Gets a drink. Goes back in bed.
11:00 comes out to bark at something, looks at me, sits beside me...can't get comfy...goes back to bed.
12:00....comes out to lay on the couch.
Yeah...I'm a little jealous.
Re: ner: such a tough life
as soon as I read the topic of your thread, I immediately thought of my dogs too. and come to find out you're talking about your dog :-)
Yeah, I think in my next life I want to come back as a dog ;-)
I'm so jealous of sleeping whenever you want! My cats are also lucky. They are fed, kept clean, have their boxes scooped at least twice a day, played with, have cozy beds and blankets to get in, have tons of toys, and they even get a bit of the yummy cat friendly things I make (today, they got scrambled eggs).
Luckies.
LOL! My dog also lives the good life. I don't know how she can sleep so much!
And yet, our little pampered pooches have issues all their own.
Three weeks ago, we had to rush our dog to the ER because he was having some major gastrointestinal issues and blood loss. His diagnosis? Stress colitis.
I remember looking at the vet and thinking he was nuts. The dog lives the good life. Spends all day napping. Has all that he could ever want. Is pampered and loved beyond belief. Right now, I'm on deadline, he's napping at my feet.
But something stressed himself out to the point he ended up in the ER (And had a little relapse last night).
My dog, poor thing, HAS the good life--but apparently, doesn't realize it. Harumph.
ungrateful little bastard!!
jk
stress colitis??
I could see because mine has moved around a few times this year if he were stressed...though he's cool as a cucumber right now ...but other than that he is very pampered. What would stress him...missing lassie?
I kid you not--we're in the hospital the day he was discharged and getting all the diagnosis info when the vet said this. And said we need to have a behavioral therapist look at him.
Technically, he's my parents dog, but I'd say H and I care for him and house/dogsit for her a good 70% of the year--so he's the communal dog.
Long story short--the vet says he's stressed out and my mom goes, "From what? Traveling the world and trying to run his travel agency while on the road?"
I chime in with, "Is he in the middle of layoffs and football season?" and H goes, "Did Oso look at his 401(k)?"
WE all got a good laugh out of it, but yup--he's stressed out. He was abandoned as a puppy (We got him from the HS) and he has had issues since we brought him home--he is very shy and skittish and anxious. Sometimes, if our neighbors are outside, he won't even go out to do his business. Even with the entire family trying to lure him out with treats and positive reinforcement.
I actually have the number of a therapist I need to call this week on my desk. I just can't believe my dog needs a therapist...I need a therapist. He sleeps, eats, plays and hangs out all day.
I was looking at him tonight while I was trying to rush and file my column and he's rolling around with his kong binky...I just said, "I'll give YOU stress colitis..."
Poor little guy. It was a scary episode for sure. And we had a little incident again last night, but we think it's nipped in the bud thanks to antibiotics.
Sigh.
