I was thinking of doing the Atkins diet. My dad had great results with it, but I know men react differently to diets. Are there any women out there who have followed the Atkins diet with success? Any tips?
Thanks!
Re: Atkins for Women
Hi! I had plenty of success with Atkins, but it's important to look at it as a short-term morale boost (rather than a permanent lifestyle solution). I lost about 50 pounds (and have kept it off for seven years), by first doing Atkins, then adding in exercise, and then transitioning to a diet with plenty of whole grains, "good carbs", fruits, vegetables, and some lean meats.
In terms of health, it's important not to overdo it with meats on Atkins. It's also really, really, really, really, really hard to transition from a low-carb diet to eating only healthy carbs. I did a series about this a while back on my blog, which you might find helpful:

Thanks for your input. I am excited to do this. I only need to lose 35 pounds and this sounds like it would do it ... and then I will concentrate on making the lifestyle change. I will check out your blog, Magpie. Thanks!
