Need help deciding what color to paint my kitchen

OK, I just painted my cabinets white, all of our appliances are white and the tile floor is a sandy-beige.  The kitchen is tiny and there are no windows so there is no natural light.  The changes I've made so far have helped to brighten up the small space so now I just need to decide on a paint color.

I was thinking a pale yellow, but I'm really not sure.  Any suggestions?

  • I was going to suggest yellow before I even read your post. We have white cabinets ss appliances, on window and I painted to walls a buttercream yellow. Its nice a cheerful without being overpowering.

  • See, I don't personally like yellow and beige together. It can definitely work, but the colors are so similar that if the shades aren't 100% perfect, they will class. I think an ivory or super light grey would be a better choice (I know you're looking for light, but grey won't necessarily detract from that as long as it's light enough). Add lots of mirrors and framed prints on the walls, and try to attach them slightly higher than you normally would to make the ceilings look higher. Hope that helps!

Do you mind telling me what brand and the color name of your yellow?  I'm starting to gather some paint swatches so I'll add yours to the collection :-)

    Thanks!

  • Yellow is a hard color to get right, so you'll have to try lots of samples.  We used Laura Ashley Cowslip 2 from Lowe's in our first house and the countertops were an inoffensive beige color.

The kitchen is actually painted a light grey right now and it's just not working for me.  I'll definitely pick up some ivory swatches, though!  Thanks!

  • I think it was Behr buttercream. I'm on vacation right now, but can check my house paint book when I get home next wknd.

  • What about a lighter green color? We used Sherwin Williams, I don't remember the name of the color though.  It is a light "grass" green.  We don't have a lot of walls, but have white cupboards and terra cotta vinyl flooring with oak also sporadically around the room, totally 90's but with the paint color, I can live with it for now.
