Last minute countertop help! PIP

I have to finalize my countertop selection in about 2 hours and now I'm second guessing what will look best! Please give me your feedback!

These are our other selections:

The first pic show the back splash (it's in the top left of the photo - rectangular stones w/glass tiles), the tile (will be in the bathrooms - there is one off the living area), the counter top swab I thought we wanted is on top of the cabinet sample (it's Caesarstone Baja) and you can see a little bit of the hardwoods. You can see the hardwood better in pic 2. The hardwood floors will be in the kitchen area so I need to make sure the countertop coordinates with them and the backsplash and isn't too busy since the backsplash is already busy. Our walls are tan (SW Ramie)

Here are the countertop choices:

Caesarstone Baja (Our top choice but worried about it looking too yellow)

image

Caesarstone Linen (DH's favorite but worried it might clash with the tan walls since it's a bit grey)

image

Silestone Blanco City (worried it might be too busy with the backsplash but it's really nice)

Please help me pick! I may do Blanco City in the bathrooms even if I do something else in the kitchen since there's no backsplash to deal with in the bathrooms.

Re: Last minute countertop help! PIP

  • Everyone has moved to this board: http://pandce.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=homegarden

I can't tell much from the cell phone pics, but I'll tell you this: the undertones of permanent items like tile and countertops cannot be changed; paint can.  Your cell phone pics give the tile a green undertone, so if that's the case, I'd lean more toward the gray counter.  Don't let the paint be a factor - you can paint the kitchen if you need to.

  • Is this counter going in Just the kitchen?  I prefer the middle as I think the first one is too yellow.
  • I like the grayish one in the middle. You can always adjust your wall color if you feel it doesn't look best with the counters. I think gray undertones look more current/updated than yellow undertones. My least favorite is the blanco city, which looks too busy to me.

I like the one in the middle best as well!
  • I'm leaning toward the one in the middle.  The first one is quite yellow.  The middle one will still look good with any number of colors for the walls or decor incase you want to make a change down the road.

I really like the last one, but I can't really make a judgement call on it with out seeing the room layout, size, etc.

  • I like  Silestone Blanco City and I don't think it will be too busy.
  • Do you mean the tile on the top right? The one on the left is black and gray. I think all three of the counters would be fine with that backsplash, but I prefer the second or third.
  • Well, we went in and looked at all the swabs again and were almost set on doing Linen (#2) in the kitchen and Blanco City (#3) in the bathrooms when the designer remembered that they had just installed Linen in one of the homes they had built and had Baja (#1) installed in another with our same color cabinets). We decided to go look and see them installed and too both our shock we hated Linen... I don't know if it was just because it was paired with white cabinets or what but even DH didn't like it and he was the one rooting for it from the beginning. In person, it looked very dull and almost a solid like grey... couldn't see the beige undertones and looked really light and plain - the little specks in the swab didn't translate at all on a whole slab. On the other hand, we both liked Baja when we saw it installed with our cabinet color and it looked way less yellow (which had been my #1 concern just based on the swabs.) It looked beautiful in person and the little specks made it look almost like sand. It was so nice. I will definitely post pics when our place is done.

DH didn't like #3 but he was ok with it in the bathrooms so that's what we're doing.

Thanks for all the feedback. I completely thought we were going to get Linen until we saw it in person. I'm sure it would have looked better with the dark cabinets but it was definitely a lot duller than we expected so we were lucky that we got to see two of our choices installed.
