Hi! My name is Amanda and I was told to come here from some girls on the GP board. I have a question for anyone whose dog has had PTLO surgery for a torn ACL. My dog Bentley had a PTLO surgery on Thursday to repair is ACL. He's doing OK and getting better, but he's panting up a storm and I was up with him until 3am because he was breathing heavy and freaking me out. Does anyone know if this is normal? He does calm down after a while, but it makes me nervous. The surgeon and her techs aren't in until tomorrow otherwise I would just give them a call. I looked up on Mr. Google and it looks like it might be because he's in pain. I'm just so worried for him, he's not struggling or anything it's just he's breathing heavy. Thanks!
Re: Quick question for anyone whose dog has had a PTLO (ACL surgery)
PAin was my first guess. Are you giving the pain meds on schedule? Are doses late?
He could just be uncomfortable or nervous. I'd work with the doc to pinpoint what the problem is. If it is anxiety, I'd try a thunder shirt before sedatives. But if he's uncomfortable, maybe sedatives. Definitely discuss with the doctor.
