Pedi for baby #2

At what point do I need to call the pedi's office and let them know baby #2 is on the way?  Unless she's sick, DD won't have another well child appointment until after the baby is born, so I can't just tell them at her next appointment.

Re: Pedi for baby #2

  • When I read this title I thought you were asking if you should get a pedicure before baby #2 got here? Or possibly if you should get your new baby a pedicure? I think I need a spa day!

DD didn't go to the doctor until she was two months, so I let them know when she was born. She was born at the Midwife center and her first two visits were with them though.

  • Ha!  I need a spa day too!

  • About a month before, I'd just call and let them know you're having another and see if you need to do anything prior to delivery.

I think that's all I did for DS#2.  My office uses the in-hospital ped service anyway for discharge, but since we had DS#2 at the birth center, they just let me know that I needed to schedule a 1 week visit as soon as our second showed-up.  I told them about when that might be and that was it.

Are you united with the CCOKCs?

  • Great, thanks.  I know with DD I called and let them know basically that I had picked this practice, but I didn't have to fill anything out beforehand.  The hospital contacted them when she was born so they came to the hospital.  I know the hospital will contact them again, but I figured I needed to at least warn them.  lol

  • I don't think you need to. I did because I was there. Otherwise, I just told the hospital who our ped was and they were notified.

  • With DS, I told them when I happened to be there for an appt with DD.   Asked if there was anything I needed to do and they said no, the hospital will call us when he's born.   That's exactly what happened too - the hospital notified them he was born and they came and saw him at the hospital.

  • I called when I was filling out my pre-admission paperwork for the hospital, since the pediatric office we go to does the newborn checks at the hospital.
