Trying to plan this right
My husband and I will be celebrating our 1st anniversary on June 11th. We have planned a simple weekend getaway to Washington D.C. to sightsee and have a nice dinner together. We are tight on money as we're saving for a house and so we didn't want to do anything too elaborate. Also, aside from our wedding, we have had 3 other weddings in the past year and 1 coming in September so we've really been spending alot in those areas instead of ourselves. I bought him a really nice watch which he has mentioned wanting for the past few years. I can't contain my excitement because it's totally perfect for him and he doesn't suspect that I would get him anything. I'm having a difficult time keeping the secret from him because I'm too excited/proud of myself for this gift so now I'm trying to plan the perfect time to give it to him. I'm not sure if I should give it to him Friday while we're still home before we leave for our getaway, Saturday when we get there, Saturday while at dinner, or on Monday which is our actual anniversary. I'd like it if he would wear it to dinner on Saturday but it would also be nice to have something to give him on the actual anniversary date. Thoughts? I'm a hopeless romantic so I'm trying to plan out the perfect surprise.

Re: Trying to plan this right
What about as he's getting ready for your Saturday night dinner? You could say something coy like: I thought perhaps this would go nicely with your tie.
Or something like that.
