The hubs and I have wanted to check out Xfinity Live, so we decided to take advantage of Sunday's beautiful weather and grab lunch down there.
Although there was a Phillies game, parking was free since we got there about an hour before the game was scheduled to end. There was a decent crowd (around 2:45pm), but it did not feel the least bit crowded. We grabbed $6 Miller Lites from outside, and wandered about checking the menus for several restaurants. For the most part, the restaurants were offering typical bar food. We settled on the Broad St Bullies pub, and ate outside. Lunch was all right - not the greatest, but certainly not the worst.
Afterwards, we headed back out front to grab a couple of beers. The game was almost done by that point, and the place was quickly filling up. Still had no problem finding seats out front though. They had a DJ playing summer anthem songs, and there were some people dancing. It was very laid back, and everyone seemed happy.
The baggo, horseshoes, etc. seemed popular, and worth checking out if you're there with a crowd (or at least another couple!). I was surprised to see kids there. Even thought it was relatively early in the day (no drunks or drunken behavior), the beer girls were all hussied up. I don't think it's a family destination, but it seemed like people were leaving the game and coming in with their kids in tow.
Overall, it was enjoyable, but I think that had to do with the good weather. Had it been miserable outside, it wouldn't have been much different than hanging out at Chickie & Petes.
Re: Xfinity Live
We have been there three times now, and I rate it "fine". It is what it is. I will say, I loathe the whole "I didn't go to the Phillies game but am 'going out' at Xfinity live" crowd it attracts during night games.
And I am pretty sure the PBR Bar and Grill is where dignity goes to die. I am no prude, but any girl riding a bull in that place after a Phillies game is an effing idiot -- the camera phones are everywhere. And this is coming from someone who once danced on the bar in McFaddens.
I really, really like the concept, I do. The crowd was just a little too DudeBro/Victoria's Secret Pink for my liking on a Friday night. The plus side though -- it has redirected some of that traffic from McFaddens.
This is the most hilariously accurate description of the crowd I have come across thusfar. I was there once, after a game whilst drunk. It was a less than stellar experience as every place was mobbed and I quickly got bored. On the bright side, beers are a bargain compared to the ball park.
Also, there is a fake Xfinity Live twitter account that is amazing. I think it is XFlNlTY LlVE (lowercase l's instead of i's). Any time someone tweets about getting in there underage, seeing someone puke, pictures on the bulls, whatever, they retweet it was something hilarious.
Send us a pic if someone hurls, we love those! RT @UnkleArnoldXfinity Live is insane! Yikes
I couldn't imagine going there on a weekend night. However, for a Sunday funday when the weather is nice, it's a pretty sweet spot. Then again, this is coming from someone who lives in Delco...our only bar with a deck is Havertown Barnaby's and I can't stand it there.
