Somewhat H&F related: Laptop Lunch Boxes
I lurk here quite a bit and had a quick question. I've noticed in the past that some of you use those laptop lunch containers and I know one of you has it in their siggy but I can't remember who...
Here's my question: If you have it, did you get it for ease of packing lunches, environmental reasons, health reasons, or all of the above? DH and I are having a hard time with our slow switch to vegetarianism and I'm thinking these might help keep lunches fun and versatile if that makes sense.
If you have one, do you use it a lot? Was it worth the extra cash rather than regular tupperware? Does it keep your lunch interesting?
Re: Somewhat H&F related: Laptop Lunch Boxes
I bought the Laptop Lunch Containers and I really wanted it to work but it was too impractical. Only one of the little containers had a lid so I couldn't pack warm food that was oily or watery like vegetable or bean dishes with sauces. It seems to be designed for sandwiches and baby carrots which I don't eat. I don't like the idea of microwaving plastic even if it is BPA free.
Another thing I didn't like about it was that it was hard to clean and you would have to wash it every day if you only have one lunch container set. Since the containers aren't good at containing food the transport bag for it gets messy and would have to get washed by hand.
Also your lunch items can only be as wide as the thinnest side of the container so no whole apples fit if you don't have time to cut them.
I bring my lunch to work everyday and found a much better way to bring it for the type of lunches I like to eat. I bought a large insulated lunch bag made by the company Thermos. It looks like a purse and I've gotten compliments on it. In it I put a small short and wide Thermos that I use for soup or veggies to keep them warm. I own two; so one's in the dishwasher while I'm using the other one. I pack slices of mango or pineapple in ziplock bags but you can use tupperware if you don't want to waste bags. I use small Pyrex bowls with lids for nut butters that I used to eat with bananas.
I don't think the lunch bag makes lunch fun or make me want to eat out less. Though it is a step above the plastic bags I used to carry the tupperware containers in after the Laptop Lunch containers didn't work out. I bring lunch from home for health reasons. That's my primary motivation.
