Fruit Salad?

I received my co-op box today and I have a ton of bananas, strawberries and pears.

We are going to the race tracks on Saturday for a friends birthday picnic. I want to make a fruit salad. What else should I add to it? What fruits compliment bananas and strawberries? Do I add anything besides fruit (like sugar or juice)??

Thanks for your help:)

Re: Fruit Salad?

  • Grapes, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe. I would skip the bananas because they will quickly brown. I like my fruit salad plain, nothing added! That way it stays healthy!

  • For some reason I tend to separate melon salads and berry/grape salads in my mind.  Not sure why, but if I were doing a fruit salad with strawberries I would probably just add in blueberries and grapes.  Stone fruits would also be good if you can find some nice ripe nectarines or plums.  I agree that the banana would brown quickly and might not be a good choice.

  • I like apples and peaches in my fruit salads that I make with strawberries and bananas. If you use apples, though, be sure to add a little bit of lemon juice to keep them fresh.
  • Keep everythin separate until ready to serve.  Sometimes the acid in some of the fruit will sour the taste of the other fruits.
