Help...digital pic storage?

I really need advise about how to backup my 20,000+ digital pics. I've been using an external hard drive but it won't hold them all now and I'm not sure what to do next. I don't want to upload them all to a site. Should I burn them to dvds? Buy a bigger external drive? Ugg..

I need to go through and delete a ton of the pics but I'm way too busy to do it right now. Thanks for any ideas!

Re: Help...digital pic storage?

  • Just buy another hard drive. They are like $50. Uploading them to the cloud would take like a year and cost you a subscription fee. Personally I'd rather have my photos spread across more than one drive, in case one fails at least I still have the other(s). Back everything up, and put the full drive in a safe or deposit box.

  • I'd buy another drive too but also join a site such as Smugmug. For a fixed rate they offer unlimited storage. Should you ever not have access to the hard drives anymore and your computer crashes, you can always download them from there or have them burn a CD for you.

  • I would buy another hard drive and sign up for smugmug or zenfolio. i've used both, but prefer zenfolio.
  • We use Sugar Sync. I like that you can send links to your family to see the pics and that I can put my documents on there so I can access them from anywhere.
