Wallpaper Hell!

Hello all!!  I have been on the knot, and am currently on the bump, but I am new here to the nest!  yay!!

DH and I bought our house last year, and then I quickly got pregnant, so most all renovations were put on hold.  But, now I have time to get to working on the house, and first line of business is getting the wallpaper out of the bathrooms!!!  I have tried Diff, vinegar and water, and piranha all to no avail of getting the wallpaper to come off nicely.  My main problem is that the paper wasnt put on correctly in the first place, so I am tearing the drywall.  Any suggestions?  And if that is just what is going to happen, whats the best way to go back and fix it?

Thanks in advance, and Im so excited to be here!!

  • We're about to start this project as well.  Everyone tells me it is worth it to buy a wallpaper steamer to get it down easily, so that's what we're going to do.  Unfortunately in most rooms the former owners of our house painted over wallpaper.  Good luck!

  • Hmm, tough one. Maybe it's time to hire professionals? You can always drywall over it, but that seems like a huge amount of work too.

  • I hate to break it to you but you in a Hot Mess.  Sorry :(

I had the same problem with a house I bought before I was married.  All 3 bathrooms had wallpaper that was not properly installed.  I had the same problems you are describing and it is NOT YOUR FAULT.

I tried every home remedy and product out there.  I had 3 professional removal companies come to my house they alll gave up and walked out.  They did not want the liability of damaging the walls.

I finally had to hire a contractor to re-drywall all 3 bathrooms.  What a headache.  But it was the only solution.  The upside it is a one time expense.

Now I am anti-wallpaper, no wallpaper ever in my homes.

    Good Luck.
