Electrical Panel

Hey everyone,

I've had my house for a year and half now, and I'm just getting around to putting a new electrical panel in (the one the house has now is too small). I was going to do this myself, but my house doesn't have a master shut off, so since I need to have one of those installed I figured I might as well have them put the panel in for me at the same time.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had  a new electrical panel installed by a professional electrician and about how much it cost.

Re: Electrical Panel

  • I'm having a copper one done and I think it's 1100 (I'm having a few other things done too and dont have the break down in front of me.  The 1900 total includes the new panel, installing two bathroom lights, one ceiling fan, and upgrading 3 electrical outlets near water to GFIs, they threw in rewiring my dryer for free and did it during the free estimate visit)

I called in a pro after attempting to rewire my dryer and inadvertently created a dead short which blew, temporary blinded me, and burnt my wrist.  Now I'm scared to change a light bulb (no joke... my hallway has been burnt out for three days...)

  • For removing the old one and transfering all the existing breakers and circuits to the new box, I'd expect to pay around $1500-$2000.

Definitely not a DIY job... especially if you don't have a master breaker yet.
