SHOW ME your small closet space!

So I've seen so many ideas for organizing small kid closets, but almost every closet idea I've seen has a wide opening/entrance, like double doors or something. We are not lucky enough to have this. Our kids (6yo girl, 2yo boy) currently have to share a room in our rental, and their closet has enough clothing space with a little extra storage space, as well. But since it has a little "front door" opening, it is hard to be able to access/reach everything easily.

Any ideas?

Re: SHOW ME your small closet space!

  • Take the door off. We removed all closet doors they annoy me. For our sons room I bought the Ikea vinyl curtain (think car wash streamers) for his doors.

    Love this idea

In fact I already took my kid's closet doors to have new floors installed and had planned to put in bi fold doors BUT I actually have two Ikea vinyl curtains I've never used sitting in the garage (I planned to use them as decor at a party and never did)

I'll be hanging them up as closet doors!

thought about doing that but my 2yo would be pulling clothes down left and right. Also since it is a rental, I don't have anywhere to store the door, since we'll have to put it back when we move.

I  really like the idea of removing the door, though. I'll have to talk to DH.

  • I removed a door in a rental (apartment) for a bi-fold door. Take the hardware off and put it in a ziplock bag taped to the door. Then put the door wherever it will fit. For me it was behind the sofa. If you are renting a house, you could put it in the attic, or I the garage. They also fit well under a queen size bed.
  • I can show you small kids spaces. We have ONE closet in our whole house. Before E was born DH and I had the two sides and we put laundry etc. in the center. That's the BEFORE pic. Then when E came along we had to put together the AFTER idea with our stuff still on the sides and her in the middle. Thank God for Ikea...
