Having sex while on sugar pills
So i take the pill where it is filled for 28 days and the last 4 days are sugar pills. I never get my period when i start my white pills. It usually starts as soon as the white pills are done and i start a new pack.
Anyways i know this may be a stupid question, but if i have sex while on the sugar pills do I need to worry about using a condom?
Re: Having sex while on sugar pills
Ummm this is not true at all. When you're not taking your active pills, you're not protected. Simple as that.
I've been taking this type of birth control for 9 years, except mine is 21 days of active pills, 7 days of sugar pills. I've literally -stopped- taking the placebo pills (there's no point, it's just to keep you on schedule).
I asked my gyno this same question back when I first started on birth control, and he assured me that you're protected for those 4 days of sugar pills. Keep in mind that birth control pills trick your body into thinking it's already pregnant to prevent your period from coming. When you take the sugar pills in your birth control pack, your body goes through what is called "withdrawal bleeding." Due to the absence of hormones, you will experience menstruation right away.
The sugar pills aren't necessary because they don't serve any purpose in terms of preventing pregnancy. Most doctors recommend their patients to continue taking their birth control sugar pills for one reason: habit. Continuing to take your birth control placebo pills will help ensure that you do not fall out of the habit of taking the other three weeks of the birth control pill, as you are still taking it every day.
This. Plus, last checked you don't ovulate during that time but will normally get a visit from AF. Though every person is different.
